On July 19, 2011, the Murrieta City Council voted to adopt General Plan 2035 and certify the Final Environmental Impact Report, as well as adopt the Climate Action Plan. Materials from the public hearing are available on the Documents page. The final General Plan document will be posted to the website soon.

The public is invited to attend a public hearing held by the Murrieta City Council in order to consider adopting the updated General Plan and certifying the corresponding Environmental Impact Report (EIR):

In this hearing, the City Council will consider a presentation by the City of Murrieta Community Development Department and members of the consultant team hired to assist in completing the update.

The presentation will include discussions about how the General Plan helps to position Murrieta to grasp economic development opportunities, key circulation improvements in the community, and two new components: the Healthy Community Element and Climate Action Plan. It will also provide a brief overview of the Environmental Impact Report.

The Planning Commission held four hearings beginning on March 9 to review the draft General Plan and EIR, and to hear public comments. In its fourth hearing on June 8, the Commission made its recommendation to the City Council to adopt the General Plan and certify the EIR, adding four items for the Council to consider. The Public Review Draft General Plan 2035 and Environmental Impact Report, along with the Technical Appendices, are available to download from this website or to pick up on CD at the City of Murrieta, Community Development Department.

The Public Review Draft General Plan 2035 Environmental Impact Report had a 45-day public comment period that began on February 8, 2011 and ended on March 24, 2011. The General Plan Comments and Responses document responds to comments received during that period.

Murrieta General Plan Update

The City of Murrieta is updating the General Plan, a document that will shape private and public development in our community for the next 25 years.  It will be a blueprint for a future that reflects our community values, hopes and visions. The General Plan is a policy document required by the State of California that guides development and forms the basis for City services, ordinances, and regulations. 

This comprehensive update of Murrieta’s General Plan is an opportunity to ensure that this important document addresses contemporary policy issues and creates a foundation for Murrieta’s future economic prosperity. The General Plan Update is intended to support the Council’s 20-year vision that Murrieta will be a diversified business hub for the region, by directing public investments in infrastructure and promoting the development of shovel-ready sites.
